SIBYLS WEEKEND AT THE PURLEY CHASE CENTRE, The Midlands, CV9 2RQ
3-6 NOVEMBER 2022
Family Relationships
The primary purpose as usual for this weekend was to give Sibyls a chance to spend time together, to have a peaceful retreat and relax together. The topic for the weekend was family relationships. For all of us, a change in close relationships is a shared experience of being trans. It can be a difficult challenge, and we have all learned from our own experience and can learn from others who find ways forward. We wanted this weekend to be a positive, helpful and enjoyable exploration. We heard about different experiences we have encountered with parents, siblings, children, partners over the course of years. We considered some ways to understand the feelings around our relationships, ways to communicate with relatives, approaches to understanding each others’ concerns and interests, and how faith helps. We made sure that everyone has the chance to share and reflect on their experiences if they wish, in a sensitive and confidential way. We combined this with fellowship, fun and conversation. Everyone was free to choose whether to attend sessions or enjoy the centre and its grounds. As usual partners were welcome to come to Purley Chase too. We wanted to ensure that partners were fully included and enjoyed the mealtimes, worship, fellowship and social times. Sibyls have found the Purley Chase Centre a lovely place for a weekend retreat each year. Set in the beautiful North Warwickshire countryside, it offers comfortable accommodation, quiet grounds and good food.
Please note that this event was for members of the Sibyls, their partners, and specific invitees only.
